At least 13 people were shot, stabbed or struck by fleeing cars at a massive street party in Syracuse early Sunday, police and a local report said.
Hundreds of people were gathered on the 100 block of Davis Street in the city’s west side when gunfire rang out at 12:22 a.m., Syracuse police spokesman Lt. Matthew Malinowski said in a press release.
Police said four people were shot, six were stabbed or cut and three who were hit by vehicles driving away from the mayhem, police said.
The injured included three men and 10 women ranging in age from 17 to 25. All were expected to survive, Malinowski said.
Victims were either found at the scene or at area hospitals, Malinowski added.
The crowd had gathered for a block party advertised on social media, Syracuse.com reported. A neighbor told the outlet a fight broke out just before midnight, but ended quickly, before another scuffle erupted about 20 minutes later — and dozens of gunshots rang out.
Those shot included: a 17-year-old girl hit in the hip and midsection; a 20-year-old woman struck in the hip; a 20-year-old man hit in the forearm and a 22-year-old woman hit in the abdomen.
A 17-year-old girl suffered cuts to one of her legs and arms and a 17-year-old boy had a laceration on one of his hands, cops said. A 19-year-old woman suffered a laceration to the head, a 23-year-old woman had a cut to the hand and a 25-year-old woman suffered multiple gashes to the shoulder and midsection.
Also, a 24-year-old woman suffered lacerations to both legs after she was hit by a vehicle. A 22-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman suffered abrasions after being struck by a vehicle and hitting the ground, police said.
Syracuse Police Chief Joe Cecile said cops on patrol heard the gunshots several blocks away and rushed over, crediting their quick response for not more people being injured, according to Syracuse.com.
He said the partiers were made up of high schoolers, recent high school graduates and college students home for the summer, according to the outlet. No permit had been issued for the bash.
Cops asked anyone with information about the incident to call them at (315) 442-5200.
