The TBI’s Criminal Intelligence Unit team is responsible for sending out the notices. TBI officials will confirm that the Blue Notice requirements have been completed before issuing the alert after receiving a request from a law enforcement agency that a law enforcement officer has died or suffered serious injuries.
What is a Tennessee blue alert?
The following conditions should be met before issuing blue alert:

Obtain felony warrants and add the offender to NCIC as soon as is reasonably possible, but no later than 24 hours.
- The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is requested to activate the Blue Alert system by the leader of any law enforcement organization in Tennessee, the Colonel of the Highway Patrol, the Chief, the Sheriff, or their designee.
